POKOTABI / Hamaso
浜正
Tucked into the residential streets of Aoto, Katsushika Ward, Hamaso is an understated Japanese dining spot offering bluefin tuna rice bowls and sashimi lunch sets by day, alongside small evening plates, seasonal fish dishes, regional sake, and shochu.
01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
Hamaso hangs its noren curtain amid the quiet streets of Aoto in Katsushika Ward, serving carefully prepared seafood in an unhurried Japanese dining room. Those arriving at midday can look to hearty lunch options such as the hon-maguro-don, which features cuts of rich red meat and fatty tuna, or the assorted sashimi set meal highlighting a colourful variety of fresh fish. Diners leaning toward fried seafood will find satisfying alternatives, from a tempura bowl crowned with a whole large conger eel and seasonal vegetables spilling over the rim, to an indulgent prawn tempura rice box (ebi tenju), offering plenty of variety alongside grilled fish sets.
When evening arrives, the kitchen shifts its focus to small plates designed for relaxed, lingering meals. The drinks list brings together celebrated chilled sakes such as Kubota Senju, Hakkaisan, and Gangi, accompanied by fragrant hirezake (warm sake infused with toasted blowfish fin) and warm refill sake (tsugizake) to sip across the courses. Spirited honkaku shochu labels like Mogura and Isami share space with bottled wine. Concluding a meal with the comforting, deeply savoury crab rice porridge (kani zosui) offers a luxurious way to round off the night.
Inside, a peaceful dining room houses counter seating well suited to solo visitors, alongside table seating ready to welcome everyday meals, family gatherings, or casual group catch-ups. Lunch set meals run from Thursday through Sunday, and advance reservations, paired with the convenience of on-site parking, make it easy to plan an unhurried visit for quality fish in Tokyo's shitamachi district.
